Spiraling Shelves

Allow me to share some of the last pieces of the Skybrary which are presently in the oven, (my shop). Hand sanding can be a bit boring, so I've sped things up a bit.
This will be the lowermost of five platforms / shelves, wrapping about one of the four central posts, typical of 1840 Italianate constuction.

I have no aversion to mechanical sanding machines if they help give the desired outcome, but more than 90% of this entire project requires hand work...

This remarkable commission for "Eat, Pray, Love" author Elizabeth Gilbert, is the creation of hundreds of feet of floating, twisting, turning bookshelves. Based on a theme reminiscent of Dr. Seuss, the vine like shelving morphs into cabinetry, a writing desk, a daybed, and a reading area as it follows the perimeter of the entire third floor of this old Italianate home.
Now that I'm better than half way through this awesome project, it's time to share some previews and reviews.
